Wholesome Meme Monday
A wholesome meme to start us off strong this Monday.
The ‘only knowledge that matters‘ meme:
It’s accurate. You really don’t need any knowledge besides those basics, in an ideal world.
In our fallen world, you also need an edge on you to conduct proper discernment (i.e.: enough skepticism to stay pure blood even given endless media campaigns to convince you to get vaxxed). But subtracting that condition, or if you’re hiding out in the woods, this about covers everything.
I initially thought about adding “knowing how to survive”… but that’s included in how to build. Some other necessary life skills like community building, communication, and the like could all be sourced through how to love. Plus, if you know love you know God, a needed knowledge qualifier. It captures most other necessary topics indirectly.
Honestly, one of the most important take-aways from this list is that each of these items builds character, independence, and integrity in a child. The child would be independent enough to survive on their own, they would be of a good traditional character, and they would demonstrate integrity through love and skillful ability. It’s not so much the strict knowledge as much as the character that is necessary to build that knowledge originally. They go hand-in-hand.
Instead of these essentials, our [public school] kids spend their days learning about trigonometry and rock formations that they will immediately forget by the following year. Or they spend their time in six years of technical English classes, even though most are native speakers. Disheartening, given the simple list of things actually needed to develop a child and build a proper character.
This should be a piece of encouragement to the homeschoolers and alternative schooling advocates. You don’t need to teach those kids much. If they learn just these few items, you’ll have already set them up better than twelve years of public school could have.
