What causes the powerful to become monsters? A 6000-word analysis on Hollywood pedophilia, sexual assault, and the connections to political elites.
Government, culture, and media.
This section of the website is a bit of a "catch-all" outside of the three other categories. In here we talk government, culture, media, and politics. Usually, there is a bit of a cross-over between other sections (such as economics).
Most articles within relate in some way to governmental structure. The form of governments is an interesting topic because it helps define the inner incentives that drive all of these issues, such as culture. Different cultures, media attitudes, and political events tend to depend on how the government incentivizes different scenarios.
My methodology involves picking specific pieces of society (such as Incentives in Socialism) and investigating their consequences. Because of this, this section can be quite a unique bag of micro vs macro topics.
Recently received an interesting email from the crew over at Project Veritas.
Thought it was a pretty insightful read, so I wanted to share it here for any of you that aren’t signed up to their newsletters
I received a pretty interesting email question the other day from a reader about why millennials are socialist, and I thought it’d make for a good article
Their email went something like this:
Hey Avi, I read your email about socialism [this one] and I was curious about why you think millennials are moving toward socialist policies?
And it’s a great question. For one, we live in an age unlike anything our ancestors could have ever imagined. Things are looking great, for now. Work hours have been reduced, health has improved, and quality of living has been steadily rising. Even crime has been dropping for some years. Why the sudden shift away from capitalism which has given us all of these benefits?
I feel like there are a few things at play here.
Tommy Robinson, an infamous anti-child grooming influencer in the United Kingdom, was arrested and jailed for filming outside of a child grooming trial. Britain has been dealing with massive amounts of child grooming scandals, mostly committed by Muslim men abusing young British girls.
They’ve also been covering up these grooming gangs, so as to not spark “public outrage”.
Tommy Robinson was at one of these trials. He was filming and making commentary on them, as he normally does. And he was arrested – and sentenced to 13 months in jail for it.
Two notable scenes from Greg Bowyer’s adaptation of Ayn Rand’s novel Anthem. These short clips follow an individual as he struggles through the process of “breaking his chains” and discovering his own identity in a dystopian world.
Teddy Roosevelt once said “Comparison Is The Thief of Joy”.
And I’m not sure I agree with this.
Comparison is a tool, albeit a competitive one, we use to gauge something about ourselves to another.
I can compare my car, to my friends car. I can compare my body, to a fitness models body.
I don’t see any type of intrinsic negativity in either of these actions. It is merely used as a benchmark, and with the right mindset I believe it could actually be an incredibly helpful tool. I think comparison can grant insight into our contentment levels of our own abilities/traits. And likewise, push them to higher reaches if we so desire.
If you’ve watched the news recently, you’ve probably seen plenty of crime-related stories. If you watch it habitually, you’ve probably come to the conclusion that there is an epidemic of crime. It’s good for clicks and capturing people’s modern short-term attention spans.
However, the reality is a little different – Crime is actually down.
Social media has been around ever since I was young. I grew up with it. In many ways, I was one of the hippy-types that used most social media platforms before they got “mainstream”. Many of us have seen the vanity of social media eventually decline the entirety of the platforms that were once so unique.
This Monday, April 9th 2018, the Justice Department released an indictment against Backpage executives for their illicit activity on the predominantly prostitution/sexual trafficking website Backpage.com. The CEO has plead guilty. What’s next?
The online dictionary Merriam-Webster recently changed the definition of “assault weapon” and “assault rifle”. This new definition is hilarious.
The story within Anthem by Ayn Rand depicts the journey of a young man known as Equality 7-2521 as he lives and escapes a dystopian collectivist future.
